Change Perspective – Release Your Pain

Think of a time in your life when you felt hurt because of someone else:

  1. What did you feel like, sad, angry, depressed, frustrated, all of the above?
  2. What else was going on in your life at the same time?
  3. What did you visualize your future to look like after the hurt? How was it different than before the hurt?

Now, visualize yourself as the other person and how they felt:

  1. What was going on in their life at the time? Were they stressed, angry, confused?
  2. Did they understand that you would be hurt by what they said or did? Was it intentional?
  3. How did they feel about you prior to the incident?
  4. Why do you think they did or said what they did?

This exercise helped me tremendously in releasing something that happened 34 years previously.

I had never put myself in the other person’s position, taking on what I think must have been their perspective.

I realized, it wasn’t ever how it had seemed and I didn’t have to live with the pain all my life.

What would you like to let go of?

I love your tips they help us release fears, old hurts, and suppressed anger.

In regard to change perspective, I thought of a recent situation when I felt hurt, and I decided try to and see the situation from the other person’s perspective, and I am coming to realize that the other person understood the situation better than I did. Sometimes when we are the object of confusion, we cannot not see things clearly. What I try to do is give it some time to see what the other person is talking about, and usually it will all become clearer to us, or we can’t handle all the information at once. I had an instructor to tell us that if we have not experienced something, we do not know where to put it in our head so we can deal with it.

I remember in the bible Jesus said to his disciple that if he told them everything at once they would not be able to comprehend it all. After his death and resurrection they understood that he would not look the same, but after talking with him the three days he had left on earth, they realized it was the great teacher. I always remember this that the light has to get brighter and brighter sometimes for us to see the forest before the trees.

    1. Thank you very much, Arletha! You are right on and bring up an excellent example to illustrate your point.

We are usually never told or don’t think about the fact that we may not be able to handle or understand all the information at once. This is a very good point and something to remember!

Thank you for your kind words, personal story and great example we can all use! I appreciate you. 🙂
