Holiday Stress – How To Stay Confident [Video]

The holiday season is the most emotional time of year and can wreak havoc on your self-confidence.

With family get-togethers and stressful deadlines for shopping and cooking, if you’re not feeling confident already, it can feel like a downward spiral into overwhelm and insecurity.

If you are a person who gets to hang out with family and friends you adore and your holidays are pure bliss, congratulations! If you are not, and may be around those who push your emotional buttons, navigating your self-confidence during this time of year can be a full-time job and leave you reeling into your New Year in undesirable fashion.

Here are my top three tips for feeling peaceful and keeping your self-esteem healthy during challenging times with people you would love to see relocate to another planet. (I’m kidding! LOL 😉 )

Here’s my slightly dim 2014 video and I go into detail below.

3 Tips To Keep Your Confidence During The Holidays

Tip #1: Personality Styles

Realize personality styles differ and some conflict from the get-go. For example, one style likes a lot of details and time to think before deciding to do something and another says, “Sounds fun, let’s do it!” and jumps in with both feet.

Obviously, at their core style these two people may not be able to understand how the other person could possibly do things the way they do or what on Earth (there’s that planet reference again) they could be thinking.

There are several combinations of styles and you can grab your own Personality Styles Sheet to profile your people here.

Tip #2: Emotional Snowballs

When someone pushes your emotional button and you time-travel to a place of feeling completely overwhelmed with anger, fear, sadness, resentment or a host of other less-than-desirable emotions, I want you to realize one important thing. The flood of emotions you feel isn’t about that one comment or question.

That comment triggered an emotion that originated in you between birth and seven years old. Like a snowball, it grew bigger every time that same emotion was triggered. And now you’re feeling all of the emotion from all those years at once and it can feel overwhelming.

Keep your cool and realize you’re not losing your marbles by feeling such a rush of emotion from a simple button-push. There are ways to release all of that extra emotion from the past (my clients’ most liberating part of coaching with me).

Tip #3: Create Your Perfect Holiday Movie In Your Head

When we bitch and moan and dread seeing or interacting with someone (usually based on past experience with them), our energetic frequency drops to a new low and based on the Universal Law Of Vibration, attracts everything else on that lousy frequency. Yuck!

Instead, here’s what I want you to do. Use your imagination to create a perfect holiday movie in your head starring …you. See everything unfolding exactly how you want it to. See the colors, faces, holiday decorations, everything in as much detail as possible.

Add sounds in too – laughter, favorite holiday music, people telling you how awesome you are, YouTube cats purring, whatever you want. Also add in your other senses. Taste the eggnog, sparkling cider, your favorite pie or stuffing.

Add in scents of the season, yummy holiday cooking smells, Christmas tree scent, fireplace aroma, and the way Great Uncle Bob smells after a shower, 😀 whatever you can think of that will add detail to your movie.

Now, visit this movie and stay in it for as long as you can as often as you can. Even 30 seconds at a time a few times per day is great. Add more details as you practice visualizing your movie with everyone getting along and feeling loving and supportive.

This energetic frequency is much higher than the dread and gloomy obligation energy so it attracts more positive people and situations in line with its high vibration.

These positive expectations can totally rock your world because even if things aren’t perfectly blissful during your holidays, you can escape now and then and play your movie in your head and feel good amongst the chaos. Trust me, I’ve done it many times and it works!

So those are my three tips for you to have a wonderful holiday season and keep your self-confidence up there where it belongs. You’re welcome! Let me know how it goes in the comments. I’d love to see your movie. 😆

  1. Another great Kelly video:-). So far I’m feeling good going into the holidays, but I’ll definitely hold onto that movie idea (and more). Happy Thanksgiving!!!
